Welcome to Inn Frenchtown

Imagine staying with your best friends, who have a charming home in historic St. Charles Missouri. Consider waking up whenever you want and wandering into the kitchen for a self-serve continental breakfast. Later, meander down the block and grab the trolley to Historic Main Street or take the short half mile walk to Historic Main Street, stopping at the shops in Frenchtown. Come home and relax on the porch or patio.

Our home, Inn Frenchtown, is located in Frenchtown, on the north side of St. Charles, Missouri, 20 miles north of St. Louis and 7 miles from Lambert International Airport. We love our neighborhood! Frenchtown is committed to revitalization and preservation; it’s smaller and has a different vibe than the well-known neighboring Historic Main Street district. In 1991 the neighborhood became a National Trust Historic District. In Frenchtown, you will find locally-owned restaurants, shops, and longstanding commercial businesses. It’s a work in process with new businesses renovating and restoring significant buildings. We know the business owners and our neighbors. It’s a friendly small town.

The house itself is a French Colonial built around 1864. The home faces east toward the Missouri river and was owned by the Opitz family until the depression. The French Colonial style features a gallery or porch with a raised porch. Kitchens were often in the walkout basement, and the upper floor was a sleeping loft. Many have two front doors, which would have you believe that they are duplexes. Our French Colonial home was renovated in 1982 by the Frenchtown Community Corporation, and sometime after that, one of the front doors was removed, and a charming fleur de lis stained glass window was installed.

More historical information can be found one block away on Second Street at the Frenchtown Heritage Museum and Research Center, which is in what was once the Fire Department. The Museum now shares its home with the Good News Brewery, and we locals refer to it as the “Brewseum.”

Had a wonderful stay at the Inn Frenchtown B&B. Great location. Walking distance to Main Street (about a mile). We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and Donna had a special treat for us. The room was spacious and the continental breakfast each morning was full of variety and delicious items. Donna shared helpful information on the activities (Lanterns & Legends) that were happening in the area. Great hostess! We truly enjoyed our stay and hope to be back again.

Great place to stay. It was beautifully decorated for the fall holidays, had all of the amenities we could have wanted and is within walking distance to the farmer’s market and the quaint shops and restaurants of Frenchtown and Main Street. Donna was an excellent host providing a great breakfast and tips on places to go and things to do. All these things made it a truly memorable trip.

Definitely coming back!!!!! Came in town for a baby shower and stayed at The French Inn. Wish I could give it 6 stars. It’s absolutely charming. Donna the owner even had a basket with a personal note welcoming us. All the amenities were excellent. A fully stocked coffee bar was a definite perk. Donna obviously has a passion for this charming area. She is so knowledgeable about the area and history. Main Street looks like a Christmas Village with boutiques, specialty shops and restaurants. Very walkable from The Inn.
